Lo! Harken ye to the tale of…
CrunchieBonez, an esoteric wight, whose craft doth dwell 'pon the twisted realms of strange beauty and the grotesque. From the dense and hallowed borough of Brooklyn, in the city of New York, this art-bearer did arise. In their early days, they took unto themselves the mantle of an educator, instructing the community in the ways of art and organizing gatherings for the people's delight. Yet, in the shadows of their deeds, they sought darker paths, studying the arts at the esteemed Maryland Institute College of Art, where they earned their mark in the lore of General Fine Arts and Curatorial Studies.
Upon their return to the cursed streets of the city, they did once more weave their eldritch events for the folk, conjuring unsettling images that plagued the mind. Notably, their craft hath served the sludge metal band known as Fleecehorn, whose music is a dirge sung in the depths of hell, and their images mirror the foul and dreadful tones of their bleating cries. This is the tale of CrunchieBonez, an artist bound to the eerie, the surreal, and the dark heart of creation itself.
My work is archival. It chronicles moments of self-reflection and intimate human experiences retold with bizarre creatures, a fascination with symbolic violence, and an obsessive focus on emotional response. Violence and Death in my work are often utilized to express an escalated form of emotional repression.
Inspired by depictions of fables in religious tapestries, I create art to confront the social boundaries of emotional communication and explore the consequences of reaction and restraint. Using fabric and collage techniques, I construct objects that resemble flesh and paint surreal compositions to translate a crucial aspect of intimate communication: emotion.
Illustrating complex emotions as monsters encourages representation and empathy, allowing for a comfortable distance to contemplate personal stories.
